The community at Myzovo village in Volyn, an ‘OCU’ raid-victim, acquires a new church

On November 13, 2021, Metropolitan Vladimir of Vladimir-Volynskiy and Kovel consecrated the church of the Nativity of the Most Holy Mother of God at the Myzovo village, Starovyzhskiy district, Volyn region. It took nine months to build the new church instead of the captured one.

In the newly consecrated church, Metropolitan Vladimir assisted by the diocesan clergy celebrated the Divine Liturgy, reports the Vladimir-Volynskiy diocesan press service.

In his homily after the liturgy, His Eminence congratulated the parishioners and the rector of the church, Archpriest Anatoly Matselik, on the important event in the life of the village - the consecration of a new church. The benefactors and parishioners, who took an active part in the construction, were presented with church awards.

The attacks of raiders began in this village in January 2019 when, at a meeting of locals with the participation of the head of a united territorial community, V. I. Semenyuk, a voting was initiated on the move of the local religious community of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church to the ‘OCU’. The permanent parishioners and the rector of the church refused to vote, since it contradicted the Ukrainian law and the wish of the faithful. After the meeting, local ‘activists’, using threats, seized from the rector the keys of the church which is the property of the religious community. Though in March 2019 the court remedied the grievance of Archpriest Anatoly Matselik and the keys were given back to the rector of the church belonging to the canonical Church, ‘OCU’ activists still managed later to take the church away from the religious community. The community members decided to build a new church, and on January 5, 2020, Metropolitan Vladimir of Vladimir-Volynskiy and Kovel blessed the foundation of the church dedicated to the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos.
