On 5 September 2014, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations, began his pilgrimage to Romania with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia.

The Embassy of the Russian Federation in Spain and the church of St Mary Magdalene in Madrid, through joint efforts, have already collected 700 kilograms of clothes in aid to refugees who have found themselves in Russia as a result of the armed conflict in eastern Ukraine.

The wooden church together with the whole church compound including a park, a large reverence cross, a carved gate and a children’s playground, was blessed by Archbishop Feofan of Berlin and Germany. Participating in the celebrations was Schema-Archimandrite Iliy (Nozdrin), spiritual father of the Optina Hermitage.
On September 2, 2014, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia met with the Primate of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland, Archbishop Kari Mäkinenn of Turku and Finland. The meeting took place at the Patriarchal and Synodal residence at the St. Daniel Monastery, Moscow.
