On 13th February 2020, at the Apostolic Palace in the Vatican, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations, met with Pope Francis.
The event was presided over by Cardinal Kurt Koch, president of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity, and Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, head of the Moscow Patriarchate department for external church relations (DECR).
The meeting summed up the work of the Joint Working Group for the past period.
They discussed the current status of relations between the Moscow Patriarchate and the Roman Catholic Church and paid special attention to fostering the Orthodox-Catholic dialogue being held by the Joint International Commission for Theological Dialogue between the Roman Catholic Church and the Russian Orthodox Church.
