His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia greeted Ms. Marija Pejčinović Burić, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Croatia, with her election as Secretary General of the Council of Europe.
Esteemed Ms. Pejčinović Burić,
I cordially congratulate you on your election as Secretary General of the Council of Europe.
You are entrusted with an important service for the good of the people of the European continent. The rich political and diplomatic experience, professionalism and profound knowledge that you have gained in the past years allow us to hope for your effective leadership of the oldest European international organization.
The Russian Orthodox Church continues to be a reliable partner of the Council of Europe in matters concerning the protection of human dignity, rights and freedoms. Especially important today are joint efforts aimed to preserve the Christian moral values, which historically lie in the foundation of the European civilization.
