On 25 January 2018, the most noteworthy educational publications of 2016-17, which underwent expert appraisal and were approved by the Synodal Council of Religious Education and Catechization of the Russian Orthodox Church, were presented at the Church Councils Hall of the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour in the framework of the 26th International Educational Christmas Readings.

Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations, rector of the Ss Cyril and Methodius Theological Institute for Postgraduate Studies and chairman of the Synodal Biblical and Theological Commission presented his book ‘Catechism. A Short Guide to the Orthodox Faith.

Taking part in the event along with many participants in the Readings were Bishop Nikolai of Balashikha, editor-in-chief of the Publishing House of the Moscow Patriarchate, and Mr. Vladimir Legoida, chairman of the Synodal Department for Church’s Relations with Society and Mass Media.

Metropolitan Hilarion cited His Holiness Patriarch Kirill’s address made at the session of the Supreme Church Council in 2012 about catechization, in which the task to make “statistical Orthodox Christians’ active members of the Church was underscored. Metropolitan Hilarion explained the meaning of the word “catechization,” told the audience the story of his new book in every detail and answered questions of the participants.
