Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church visits Cambodia

Archbishop Sergy of Solnechnogorsk, administrator of the Moscow Patriarchate parishes in Southeast Asia, visited Cambodia on February 13-16, 2017.

On February 13, His Eminence and those accompanying him were met at the Phnom Penh airport by H.E. Dmitry Tsvetkov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Kingdom of Cambodia; Archimandrite Oleg (Cherepanin), representative of the Russian Orthodox Church in the Kingdom of Cambodia; and Mr. S. Stepanov, a warden of St. George’s church in Phnom Penh.

Archbishop Sergy visited St. George’s church currently under construction, celebrated a prayer service to its heavenly patron, and discussed practical matters pertaining to the completion of the construction.

Next day, the eve of the feast of the Meeting of the Lord at the Temple, Archbishop Sergy officiated at the All-Night Vigil and celebrated the Divine Liturgy on the next day at the church of St. Panteleimon the Great Martyr and Healer. Some thirty worshippers took Holy Communion.

Archbishop Sergy warmly greeted worshippers with the feast and wished them God’s help in their witness about Orthodoxy in the Asian country where they live.

Later in the day Archbishop Sergy visited the territory where the trade mission of the Russian Federation used to be located. He saw the place at which St. Nicholas’ church will be built, met with the Orthodox staff members of the Russian embassy, greeted all those present with the feast, spoke about its spiritual meaning and answered questions.

Also, Archbishop Sergy of Solnechnogorsk met with Ambassador Tsvetkov. They discussed a wide range of issues pertaining to pastoral care for compatriots in Cambodia.

On February 16, Archbishop Sergy and his party left the Kingdom of Cambodia.
