DECR chairman receives Hungarian ambassador to Russia

Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, head of the Moscow Patriarchate’s department for external church relations, met with the Hungarian Ambassador in Russia H. E. Mr. Gyorgy Gilyan on 29 April 2010 at the department. Present at the meeting were also Counsellor Istvan Teszler and Hungarian Trade Representation Minister Istvan Csozik. The DECR was represented by Rev. Sergiy Zvonarev, secretary for far-abroad countries, and V. Matiyashin, of the secretariat for far-abroad countries.
Metropolitan Hilarion told Ambassador Gilyan that during this service in the diocese of Vienna and Austria he visited Hungary on many occasions and had warm remembrances of that country and its people.
The ambassador in his turn expressed high appreciation of the level of economic and humanitarian cooperation established between the two countries. He also stressed the important role played by the Russian Church in the development of Russian-Hungarian religious and cultural contacts.
They discussed promising ways for cooperation between the Moscow Patriarchate structures and Hungarian organizations in the area of cultural exchange and restoration and economic work.
