Russian president congratulates Patriarch Theodore of Alexandria and All Africa on the 5th anniversary of his enthronement
President Dmitry Medvedev sent a congratulatory message to His Beatitude Theodore II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, on the occasion of the 5th anniversary of his enthronement and his 55th birthday.
Mr. Medvedev noted the contribution made by Patriarch Theodore to ‘the cause of asserting Orthodox unity and broadening the constructive dialogue of Christian Churches” and stressed his appreciation of the patriarch’s concern for the development of fruitful cooperation with the Russian Orthodox Church.
The congratulatory message stated in particular, ‘For many years you have made a considerable contribution to the assertion of the ideals of peace, goodness and charity. Under your patronage, not only churches but also hospitals and schools have been built and missionary and cultural centers have been opened. During your pastoral ministry in Africa, you have considerably consolidated the position and authority of Orthodoxy in the continent. We appreciate your attention to the development of fruitful cooperation with the Russian Orthodox Church, your pastoral concern for our compatriots and your kindness to Russia with which you are tied by many things’, the presidential official website reported on November 25.
