Patriarch Kirill lays flowers at the Victory Memorial in Minsk
His Holiness and his delegation were welcomed at Victory Square by Minsk Acting Mayor N. Ladutko. After laying the flowers, Patriarch Kirill lifted up a prayer for the rest of the souls of those who fell during the Great Patriotic War. The bishops and priest sang ‘Eternal Memory’ to them.
The Victory Memorial was erected on 4 July 1954 to honour the Soviet Army soldiers and Byelorussian partisans who were killed during the Great Patriotic War. The monument has become one of the symbols of the Byelorussian capital city.
